BRIDGE AND DAM
Areas of use for concrete
Technical progress, and in particular the evolution of the characteristics of the concrete, make it possible to reach several hundreds of meters of length of concrete.
Large dams are most often made of concrete allowing settlements in the most difficult sites.
It is also necessary to mention unusual structures: offshore structures or nuclear power plants, the requirements of which require concretes with high mechanical characteristics and durability.
For large tunnels, examples of which are proliferating around the world, concrete is either cast in place or used in prefabricated segments. These are put on the progress of the drilling machine - the tunnel boring machine.
