Treated gravels are wet gravels, which may or may not be blended, and to which a binder—usually hydraulic—is added. If a bituminous binder is added, we refer to the products as emulsion gravels or cold-mix asphalt.
Treated gravels are used in road structures (in the base course and/or foundations, depending on the traffic), in roadbeds and pipe-laying operations (e.g. the backfilling of trenches).
In-plant treatment compared to in-situ treatment improves traceability and homogeneity of the final mix.
